The five most-asked questions
- What’s the best anti-ageing treatment to have?
I wish I could wave a magic wand and eradicate patient’s skin concerns, giving them all an instant healthy glowing complexion. However, nothing in life is that easy and it’s the same when it comes to aesthetic treatment.
There is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to aesthetics; every face is unique and has different areas of concern. For the best results, every patient needs a bespoke approach. In most instances, a combination method is best where we take the whole face into consideration and use one or more treatments. A great example of that is the Anti Wrinkle Clinic’s Signature Packages. Each package is aimed at different concerns, from dull skin and tired eyes, to dry and lax skin. These packages all consist of up to 5 different treatments to get the best, most holistic results.
We create full facial harmony by ensuring what we do in one area of the face, doesn’t accentuate other affected areas. So instead of asking “What’s the best anti-ageing treatment?” ask, “What’s the best approach for me?”
- When should I start having treatment?
This is all very much down to the individual, although we must affirm that we do not treat anybody under the age of 18. Scientifically, the first signs of ageing appear around the ages 26-27, but this doesn’t mean you need to jump straight into having injectable treatments. We believe everyone should be taking care of their skin, regardless of age, and the best place to start is looking at your lifestyle:
Diet: vitamins, minerals and antioxidants in foods such as fruit, vegetables and healthy fats are consistently associated with fewer wrinkles and less age-related dryness
Sleep/rest: during sleep the skin’s blood flow increases, collagen is rebuilt & the body repairs damage from UV exposure, which reducing wrinkles and age spots
Stress management – stress can cause wrinkles to form due to the high amounts of cortisol, breaking down the skin's collagen & elastin.
Sun exposure – UV radiation causes DNA changes in the skin that can lead to premature ageing & skin cancer.
Exercise – regular exercise slows cell ageing and boosts overall health.
Skincare – using an advanced clinical skincare regimen is the best treatment for the skin at any age. It's never too late to start a skincare regime and it is the foundation of any future treatment.
- “I think I’d like some Botox in my lips… or is it fillers?”
There’s a lot of confusion between "Botox" (anti-wrinkle injections) and dermal fillers. Lots of people refer to all aesthetic injectable treatments as “Botox” but this isn’t correct. In fact, many people also don’t realise that “Botox” is actually a brand of anti-wrinkle injection, and not the name of the treatment. So, what’s the difference between anti-wrinkle injections and fillers?
Anti-wrinkle injections: these treatments contain the ingredient Botulinum Toxin A, which is injected into the muscle and works by blocking signals from the nerves so muscles can't contract. This makes wrinkles relax and soften. It is most often used on forehead lines, crow's feet (lines around the eye), and frown lines. Results can last between 3-6 months.
Dermal fillers: there are different types of fillers with different ingredients, but the most commonly used fillers are a soft injectable gel consisting of hyaluronic acid (HA). HA naturally exists in the body and these fillers work by boosting the skin’s supply, adding volume and diminishing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers are used mainly in the lower two-thirds of the face and results last between 6-12 months.
